I developed a card game to reflect the relationship of time and space, aimed specifically at RISD students.
The title Circa Diem is a play on “circadian” and “carpe diem",” as it’s meant to reflect the daily temporal balance a student must strike to succeed and stay sane!
The game design came easy, though the graphic design was pushed through several stages of iteration and game-testing. Eventually I landed on a design that was easy to read, without compromising the amount of text (which was necessary to the game).
Research for the project included several interviews with students about what they find themselves struggling to balance with and particular situations they’ve had to compromise their time for. The user-testing was primarily several rounds of game-play with my friends, watching my friends play and also participating myself.
A silent round was played for the final critique.
